The Nile has two major tributaries, The Blue Nile and the White Nile. The White Nile is longer than the Blue Nile. The Blue Nile is the source of most of the Nile's water and fertile soil.
Flooding of The Nile River over hundreds and thousands of years has deposited a thick layer of rich fertile silt across the landscape. Thus people living in the area dug out the fertile silt and carried it to their farms as it is good for growing food.
